Cutting Boards

The surface beneath a knife has a direct effect on how long its edge lasts. Glass, stone, and ceramic dull a blade quickly; wood absorbs the impact of each cut and helps a fine edge stay sharp. This collection focuses on two woods chosen for their compatibility with quality cutlery: teak and hinoki.

Teak is a dense tropical hardwood with a high natural oil content, which gives it strong resistance to moisture. Our TeakHaus boards are available in edge-grain and end-grain construction, from compact serving boards to full butcher blocks. Hinoki, a Japanese cypress, is a softer wood that gives slightly under the blade, which makes it a preferred surface for thin, hard Japanese knives. Both woods benefit from regular oiling, and board oil is available in this collection.

  • TeakHaus 21 x 18-inch Double-Sided Countertop Board

The TeakHaus Double-Sided Countertop Board is for cooks who carve, chop, and bake on the same surface. One face has a juice canal for meat and produce. The other face has a lip along the edge that hooks over the front of the counter and holds the board in place, so you can roll dough or chop without the board sliding away from you.

Juice canal: Flip the board and the canal side holds juices from roasts, steaks, and ripe fruit. Reclaimed teak: Each board shows its own grain and color. Large, light board: A full-size work surface that weighs much less than the TeakHaus butcher blocks.

  • Shun Large Hinoki Cutting Board with Juice Groove

This large cutting board from Shun is made of Japanese Hinoki, which is known for its beauty, fragrance, and longevity under the wettest conditions. White Cypress (Hinoki) is the traditional wood of choice for building Japanese palaces, temples, shrines, and, due to its water resistance, baths. The light-colored wood features a rich, straight grain and a pleasant lemon scent. In addition to its beauty and aroma, Hinoki has an extremely tight and straight grain structure that creates the perfect cutting surface for the sharpest knives, helping to preserve their fine delicate edges. The medium soft wood combined with the straight grain structure, creates a self healing property in the board that helps to hide scratches and preserve the board's natural beauty. Learn More
  • TeakHaus 20 x 15-inch Traditional Cutting Board

The TeakHaus Traditional Cutting Board is for home cooks who want a single everyday board large enough for real prep work and small enough to leave out on the counter. Both faces are smooth and both are usable, so the board serves as a prep station, a bread board, and a serving board. According to TeakHaus, America’s Test Kitchen has named the Traditional board its winning wood cutting board since 2013.
Features Edge-grain teak: Teak’s high natural oil content acts as a moisture barrier, and its medium hardness gives a cutting surface that is easy on knife edges. Two smooth faces: With no canal, the whole surface is open for work, and you can keep one side for produce and the other for proteins. Hand grips: Grips cut into the ends make the board easier to lift and carry to the sink or table. Stable mass: The board’s weight keeps it in place during chopping.
How to Use It Handle daily prep: vegetables, herbs, aromatics, and fruit. Trim and portion boneless cuts of meat and fish. Slice bread and serve it at the table. Set out cheese and charcuterie for a small group.
Choosing a Size For more surface area, see the TeakHaus 24 x 18-inch Traditional Cutting Board. For the same size with a juice canal, see the TeakHaus 20 x 15-inch Traditional Carving Board with Juice Canal. Learn More
  • TeakHaus 20 x 15-inch Traditional Carving Board with Juice Canal

The TeakHaus Traditional Carving Board with Juice Canal is for cooks who carve roasts, brisket, and whole birds at home and want one board that handles both the carving and the daily prep. The large edge-grain surface gives a full roast room to rest, and the canal keeps the juices on the board instead of the counter. TeakHaus notes that Food & Wine featured this board in its list of the seven best carving boards.
Features Edge-grain teak: Teak’s high natural oil content acts as a moisture barrier, and its medium hardness gives a cutting surface that is easy on knife edges. Perimeter juice canal: A channel around the edge of the carving side catches juices from roasts and ripe produce, so liquid stays where you can spoon it back over the meat. Flat reverse side: Turn the board over for chopping vegetables, herbs, and bread on an uninterrupted surface. Hand grips: Grips cut into the ends make a heavy board easier to lift, turn, and carry to the table. Thick, heavy build: The board’s mass keeps it steady on the counter while you carve.
How to Use It Carve a rib roast, turkey, or brisket on the canal side and serve from the board. Rest grilled steaks or pork shoulder and collect the juices for the sauce. Use the flat side for daily prep: dicing onions, mincing herbs, slicing bread. Cut watermelon, pineapple, and tomatoes without flooding the counter.
Choosing a Size For a smaller carving board, see the TeakHaus 16 x 12-inch Professional Carving Board with Juice Canal. For holiday turkeys and large cuts, the TeakHaus 24 x 18-inch Traditional Carving Board with Juice Canal adds working room. If you do not need a canal, the TeakHaus 20 x 15-inch Traditional Cutting Board is the same size with two smooth faces. Learn More
  • TeakHaus 24 x 18-inch Traditional Cutting Board

The TeakHaus Traditional Cutting Board in its largest size is for cooks who prep in volume and want a single surface that stays on the counter. There is room to break down a whole chicken, stage a full mise en place, or roll out dough, and both faces are smooth, so either side is a working side. According to TeakHaus, America’s Test Kitchen has named this board its winning wood cutting board since 2013.
Features Edge-grain teak: Teak’s high natural oil content acts as a moisture barrier, and its medium hardness gives a cutting surface that is easy on knife edges. Two smooth faces: With no canal on either side, the full surface is usable, and you can flip the board to keep raw proteins and produce separate. Hand grips: Grips cut into the ends make a large, heavy board easier to lift and move for cleaning. Stable mass: The board’s weight keeps it from sliding during heavy chopping.
How to Use It Prep an entire meal on one board, pushing finished ingredients to the far edge. Break down poultry and large cuts of meat. Knead and shape bread or pizza dough. Serve a large spread of bread, cheese, and charcuterie.
Choosing a Size The TeakHaus 20 x 15-inch Traditional Cutting Board is the same design in a size that suits most counters. If you carve roasts on the same board, the TeakHaus 24 x 18-inch Traditional Carving Board with Juice Canal matches this size and adds a canal on one side. Learn More
  • TeakHaus 20 x 15-inch End Grain Butcher Block Cutting Board

The TeakHaus End Grain Butcher Block Cutting Board is for cooks who chop heavily and often and want a board built for that work. It has no canal, so both faces are full working surfaces, and the end-grain construction stands up to daily use. TeakHaus states that its end-grain teak resists moisture and bacteria.
Features End-grain teak: The wood fibers stand upright, so the knife edge passes between them rather than across them. Teak’s high natural oil content acts as a moisture barrier. Heavy-duty build: Thick, dense construction keeps the board planted during cleaver work and repetitive chopping. Reversible, no canal: Both faces are flat, so you can dedicate one to produce and one to proteins. Hand grips: Grips cut into the ends make a heavy board manageable to lift and turn.
How to Use It Chop large batches of vegetables for soups, stocks, and sauces. Break down whole chickens with a cleaver or boning knife. Mince herbs and aromatics without the board shifting. Work dough or serve a board of bread and cheese.
Choosing a Size If you want a canal, see the TeakHaus 20 x 14-inch Extra-Thick End Grain Butcher Block with Juice Canal or the TeakHaus 24 x 18-inch End Grain Butcher Block with Juice Canal. For a smaller board, see the TeakHaus 16 x 12-inch End Grain Butcher Block with Juice Canal. Learn More
  • TeakHaus 18 x 14-inch Herringbone Cutting Board with Juice Canal

The TeakHaus Herringbone Cutting Board is for cooks who want a board that works hard on prep days and looks finished enough to bring to the table. The edge-grain teak strips are set in a herringbone pattern, with a juice canal on one face for carving and a flat face for chopping and serving.
Features Herringbone edge-grain teak: The pattern gives the board a distinctive look, and the edge-grain surface is easy on knife edges. Teak’s high natural oil content acts as a moisture barrier. Juice canal: A channel on the carving face holds juices from roasted meats and ripe fruit. Flat reverse side: The other face is uninterrupted, for chopping or for setting out cheese and bread. Hand grips: Grips cut into the ends make the board easy to lift, flip, and carry.
How to Use It Carve a roast chicken or pork tenderloin on the canal side. Chop vegetables and herbs on the flat side. Serve cheese, charcuterie, or sliced bread at the table. Slice tomatoes, citrus, and stone fruit without juice reaching the counter.
Choosing a Size The herringbone design also comes as the TeakHaus 16 x 12-inch Herringbone Cutting Board, which adds a tablet slot, and the TeakHaus 24 x 18-inch Herringbone Cutting Board for large cuts. Learn More
