The Friedrich Dick Premier Plus 5 inch Serrated Utility knife is an excellent product for a variety of tasks in the kitchen from slicing avocados and removing their pits to cutting whole cantaloupe and cutting them into square pieces. The benefit to the serrations on a utility knife is the lack of sharpening required as the tip of the tines is what is touching the hard surface like a cutting board and dulling while the rest of the blade stays sharp for longer. When the blade does finally lose its edge sharpening can be done with care with a slip file or ceramic rod.
