Wüsthof Classic 5-inch Serrated Utility Knife

A ripe tomato flattens under a straight edge that has lost a little of its bite, but a serrated blade grips the skin and slices cleanly. The Wüsthof Classic 5-inch serrated utility knife has fine serrations that do the same for bagels, crusty rolls, citrus and peaches.

It is a handy sandwich knife as well. The 5-inch blade cuts through a hard roll and the layers inside without crushing them, and it slices dry sausage and hard cheese for a board. The fine serrations stay effective long after a straight edge would need honing.

It is a good knife to leave out on the counter for family members who would otherwise use the chef’s knife on a bagel, and a good knife to keep in an office kitchen.     Care

    Wash by hand in warm, soapy water right after use and dry it immediately. Do not put the knife in the dishwasher or leave it soaking. Hone it regularly on a steel and sharpen it when honing no longer restores the edge. Cut on wood or plastic boards, never on glass, stone or metal.
