Traditional Waterstones

Traditional Waterstones cut quickly, provide a great tactile response, and are available in a wide variety of grits. Waterstones are very porous – they are designed to be soaked before each use. This soaking process lubricates the stone's surface, which prevents the buildup of heat from friction and floats away metal particles, called swarf, keeping the stone from getting clogged. As the stone is used, a slurry of abrasive particles and water forms on the surface. This slurry is what allows the stone to cut quickly and polish the blade effectively. Traditional soaking waterstones are indispensable tools prized for their ability to produce a highly refined edge, typically on kitchen knives and woodworking tools. We recommend that you use at least 2 grits when sharpening, one to set your primary edge and a second to refine and polish.

  • Norton 4000/8000 Grit Combination Waterstone

The Norton 4000/8000 Grit Combination Waterstone creates an abrasive slurry during use, for effective sharpening with less pressure than oil stones. The 4000 grit is for maintaining and refining your blade's edge, and the 8000 grit is for polishing. The 4000 grit side requires some soaking and the 8000 can be used as a "splash and go". We recommend using the blue storage case for soaking the 4000 grit as this will allow the 8000 side to stay out of the water. The blue plastic box features rubber feet, and can be used as a holder during use. Learn More

  • RH Preyda 1000/6000 Combination Grit Arkansas Stone

Precision Engineering Meets Natural Performance: The Ultimate 1000/6000 Dual-Grit Arkansas Stone For the professional chef or the serious tool enthusiast, a knife is only as good as its edge. The RH Preyda 1000/6000 Grit Combination Arkansas Stone represents the pinnacle of natural sharpening technology. Unlike mass-produced synthetic stones that wear down quickly and require frequent flattening, this stone is crafted from natural Novaculite—a rare, silica-rich rock found only in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas. This unique mineral composition provides a dual-benefit that synthetic stones cannot match: extreme abrasiveness for rapid metal removal and incredible hardness for long-term stone flat-retention. The result is a 'quicker dull-to-sharp' process that saves you time and ensures your high-carbon or stainless steel blades receive a consistent, razor-sharp edge every time. The Versatility of Two Stones in One This 8" x 3" powerhouse features two distinct grits bonded into a single, convenient block. The 1000 Grit Surface: Designed for the initial sharpening phase. This side is aggressive enough to reset a dull edge, remove micro-chips, and establish the primary bevel without removing excessive material. The 6000 Grit Surface: Once the edge is established, flip the stone to the ultra-fine 6000 grit side. This surface hones the metal to a mirror-like polish, refining the edge for surgical precision in slicing, dicing, and detail work. Built for stability, the stone includes a non-slip silicone base, ensuring your sharpening strokes remain steady and safe, whether you are working in a fast-paced professional kitchen or a home workshop. • RH Preyda 1000 Grit Arkansas Waterstone

The Hardest Working Foundation for Every Professional Edge When maintaining a professional kitchen or workshop, the 1000 grit stone is your most critical asset. It is the workhorse of the sharpening station, responsible for the heavy lifting of edge restoration and geometry correction. The RH Preyda 1000 Grit Arkansas Waterstone represents a Tier-1 upgrade over standard synthetic stones by utilizing 100% natural Novaculite. Found exclusively in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas, this rare geological formation provides a unique combination of high abrasiveness and incredible structural hardness. Why Natural Novaculite Trumps Synthetic Most synthetic stones on the market use aluminum oxide or silicon carbide, which can 'dish' or hollow out quickly under heavy use, requiring constant flattening with a diamond plate. The natural density of the RH Preyda Novaculite ensures your stone stays true significantly longer. This translates to more consistent angles across the entire length of your blade and a 'quicker dull-to-sharp' process that respects your time. Expert Application Insight While ultra-fine stones provide the mirror polish, the 1000 grit is the mandatory first step for any knife that has lost its daily utility edge. This stone is designed for those who demand efficiency and precision. It provides the 'bite' necessary to reset a bevel before transitioning to finishing stones. Measuring a generous 8″ x 3″ x 1″, this massive surface area provides the stability needed to accommodate everything from delicate paring knives to heavy 10-inch chef’s knives and cleavers. Crafted in the U.S.A., it includes a custom-fit silicone non-slip base, ensuring that even under the pressure of professional sharpening, your stone remains exactly where you need it. Learn More
  • RH Preyda 400 Grit Arkansas Waterstone

Restore Your Edge with the Pure Power of Natural Novaculite When your professional blades lose their bite, synthetic stones often wear down as fast as the steel they are meant to sharpen. • Masahiro 600 grit Waterstone

A fast-cutting 600 grit waterstone that removes material quickly while leaving an edge refined enough to move directly to 3000 grit. The Masahiro 600 Grit is the stone to reach for when a knife has fallen past maintenance and needs to be brought back efficiently. It cuts quickly and predictably, making it easy to re-establish an edge without overworking the blade. What sets this stone apart is the finish it leaves. Unlike most stones in this range, it produces a cleaner scratch pattern, which allows you to move straight to a 3000 grit for refinement. You can skip the 1000 grit step entirely if you prefer a more efficient progression. This makes it especially useful for routine edge recovery on working knives, perfect for when the edge is worn down but not heavily damaged. It will raise a consistent burr quickly, with clear feedback throughout the stroke. You can feel exactly when the edge is ready to move on, which helps maintain control over pressure and angle. This is not a heavy repair stone. For large chips or full reprofiling, a coarser grit is still required. Soak the stone before use and keep the surface wet during sharpening. Like all waterstones, it will wear over time and should be flattened periodically to maintain a consistent surface. Learn More
