Ateco 8-inch Straight Icing Spatula with Plastic Handle

Frost the top of an 8- or 9-inch layer cake and the blade on this spatula reaches from the center to the edge, so the icing can be leveled in long, even strokes rather than patched together.

The taper-ground blade also spreads crepe batter on a griddle and slides under a cake layer to move it.

A wood-handled version is also available. For sheet cakes and 10- to 12-inch rounds, move up to the 10-inch or 12-inch.
