What is Included
- Solid Oak Base: The base is crafted from solid oak, providing weight and stability during use. It features pre-drilled holes set to precise angles (approximately 20 degrees per side, 40 degrees inclusive).
- Two Coarse Rods: These rods are designed for the first stage of sharpening. They remove a small amount of metal to re-establish the edge on dull knives.
- Two Fine Rods: These high-alumina ceramic rods are used for the finishing stage. They hone the edge, realign the microscopic burr, and polish the blade for a smooth cut.
- Integrated Storage: The base features storage slots, allowing all four rods and the hand guard to be stowed safely inside the wooden block when not in use.
Key Features & Specifications
- Rod Length: 9 inches.
- Rod Diameter: 5/16 inch.
- Abrasive Material: High-purity Alumina Ceramic.
- Angle: Pre-set V-geometry ensures consistent bevels on both sides of the blade.
- Safety: Includes a plastic hand guard to protect fingers during the sharpening motion.
How to Use
- Place the wooden base on a flat, stable surface.
- Insert the desired rods (Coarse for dull knives, Fine for touch-ups) into the angled holes.
- Hold the knife blade straight up and down (vertically).
- Draw the blade down the rod and toward you, starting at the heel and ending at the tip, alternating between the left and right rods.
- Repeat the process on the Fine rods to finish the edge.
Care Instructions: Over time, the ceramic rods will turn grey as they collect metal particles from your knives. This can reduce their effectiveness. To clean, scrub the rods with a scouring pad, water, and a mild abrasive cleanser (such as Bar Keepers Friend) to remove the metal load and restore the ceramic surface. Dry thoroughly before storing.
