The Idahone 12-Inch Ceramic Rod is designed for maintaining and refining the edges of high-performance kitchen knives. Unlike traditional steel honing rods that primarily realign a rolled edge, this high-alumina ceramic rod has an approximate grit rating of 1200 (ANSI), allowing it to remove a small amount of steel to actively sharpen and refine the edge during use.

The 12-inch rod length provides ample contact for full, consistent strokes on 8-inch to 10-inch chef’s knives. Its fine abrasive surface—approximately 1200 grit (ANSI) or 3500 grit (Japanese equivalent)—delivers a level of refinement comparable to a light touch-up on a ~3000 grit whetstone, making it well-suited for maintaining both high-hardness Japanese knives and modern Western alloys. With a 1/2-inch diameter, the rod offers a stable contact surface while remaining precise enough for controlled edge work.
